Discover History
Our Curriculum
Our history curriculum is well-structured and is based on the National Curriculum. Our focus is on inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that every child, regardless of their learning needs, can engage meaningfully with historical content. The curriculum is differentiated to cater to a range of abilities, using a variety of teaching strategies and resources, such as visual aids, tactile resources, and interactive learning tools such as digital history apps or sensory materials which can support those who struggle with traditional text-based learning. History topics are taught through themes and concepts that are relevant and engaging, such as local history, key events, and figures in British history, or global history. The content is broken down into manageable chunks, with a strong emphasis on repetition and reinforcement of key ideas to help children retain information.
Additionally, our curriculum fosters critical thinking and personal connections to the past. Teachers use storytelling, drama, role-play, and trips to historical sites or museums to bring history to life in a way that is accessible and enjoyable. The curriculum encourages pupils to make connections between past events and their own lives, helping them understand the significance of history in shaping the present.
Assessment
Our assessment is flexible, focusing on individual progress rather than comparison to peers, and includes a variety of forms such as observations, verbal responses, and project-based work. This approach ensures that every child can experience success in their historical learning, promoting a sense of achievement and understanding of the world around them.
