Our Curriculum

At Aspire,  our Discover Geography curriculum is designed to be inclusive and engaging, catering to the diverse needs of the children within our school.  The curriculum focusses on providing as many hands-on experiential learning opportunities as possible to allow children to explore their environment in a meaningful way.

Local Knowledge

Emphasis is placed on local geography and known places around them first, encouraging children to learn about their immediate surroundings,   such as the  features of the school and community.

Through trips, interactive maps and sensory activities, children develop their spatial awareness and understanding of geographical concepts such as location, distance and direction, in a supportive and stimulating environment.

Global Awareness

In addition to local geography, the curriculum also incorporates global awareness, introducing children to different cultures, landscapes and ecosystems around the world.   This is achieved through visual aids, story-telling and multimedia resources which are accessible and relatable.  

Activities may include creating simple maps, exploring the weather patterns, and learning about various habitats, all tailored to accommodate varying levels of understanding and sensory preference.

By fostering curiosity and appreciation  for the world, the geography curriculum not only enhances academic skills but also promotes social interaction, communication and personal growth.
